MISSION STATEMENT

The Memphis Paralegal Association (MPA), formerly known as Mid-South Association of Legal Assistants (MSALA), was formed in April 1982 to promote the paralegal profession in Memphis and the surrounding areas to advance the educational standards of the profession, to educate employers regarding the role of paralegals, and to continue the education of paralegals through seminars and research. MPA is a non-profit organization serving the legal community as its paralegals.

MPA has RELOADED for the 2009-2010 term, which our direct focus will be on the following:

1. Promotion of the Paralegal Profession
2. Advancing Educational Standards of the Profession
3. Educating Employers Regarding the Role of Paralegals (Paralegal Utilization)
4. Continuing the Education of Paralegals Through Seminars and Research

The Memphis Paralegal Association ("MPA") was formed in April of 1982 to promote the paralegal profession in Memphis and surrounding areas; to advance the educational standards of the profession; to educate employers regarding the role of paralegals; and, to conduct seminars, research and handle work relative to the paralegal profession.  As a non-profit organization and member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations ("NFPA"), MPA is an active participant in the legal community and serves as a communication network for paralegals.

MPA continues to open the door to so many opportunities in advancing educational standards through continuing legal education ("CLE") and networking resources in an effort to assist the members with professional development.  Whether you have a CLA, CP and/or RP certification, MPA has all the tools and resources you need to comply with accreditation requirements and keep you informed on paralegal issues.  MPA also offers study groups for paralegal certification exams and is proud to announce that its national affiliate association, NFPA will soon be adding a paralegal entry-level exam as a tier to the current Paralegal Advance Competency Exam (PACE) for paralegal certification. (PACE offers the Registered Paralegal "RP" designation.)

The Memphis Paralegal Association (“MPA”) is affiliated with the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (“NFPA”).  Formed in 1974, NFPA was the first national paralegal association.  Created as a non-profit federation, NFPA is an issues-oriented, policy-driven professional association, directed by its membership.  Paralegals join NFPA because they want to be involved in determining the future of the paralegal profession.  Thus, as a member of MPA, you would likewise have a voice in the future of your career.
